Laura Jayne

Welcome to the blog of Laura Jayne.

I started this blog with no intentions or thoughts about where this may take me... so let's see what happens.

A little bit about me... I graduated from University in 2010 and since then have been working for an Online retailer. I have recently enrolled on an Event Planning course and hope to pursue this further over the next few years.

I have a personal love for cakes, interior design and music (I have even dabbled in a bit of DJ'ing). Please share your thoughts and wisdom with me... it's all taken on board!

I love this bird cage table plan design.  If you are going for a vintage theme or if you have bird cage centre pieces for your event this would be a beautiful touch to bring together your theme.

Is Spring the new Summer for Weddings?

Whilst this week has been rather cold and a little dreary… April seems to be the new Summer when it comes to Wedding Season.

One Wedding Venue company that I know of have 40 weddings in 30 days across their 4 venues and it seems to be that the Spring Season is the new Wedding Season.

The UK weather is so unpredictable and Brides seem to be happy with the temperatures being slightly lower but the Sun in full view in the sky to increase the chances of outdoor ceremonies and stunning outdoor photos.

Would you consider a Spring Wedding for the hope of better weather or are you simple not bothered about rain or shine as long as your big day is a fabulous one?

Spring Florals

Use the beautiful colours of spring florals at this time of year to add vibrance and colour to your event.  Flowers such as Tulips and Daffodils are in abundance and can liven up any venue.

Why not mix lots of miniature bouquets across your venue with candles for later on in the day to add a touch of warmth.

How about this for some flipping good fun and something for your guests to take away to remember your wedding or event!

FunFlip offer a fantastic fun filled service! They will set up a photographic area at your event, you can choose your background and you have up to 7 seconds to pull poses and create some crazy photos! At the end you will receive a mini flip book to tell your 7 second story!

You can even personalise them, so if its your wedding day, then get the cover dated with a picture of yourselves so that your guests have a fantastic item to take away and remember your big day!

Check out their website for more information about what they can offer you!

Personalise It…

Many people like to personalise their wedding or event by putting their own names/initials or company branding on stationary, napkins, banners and whatever else you can think of. I like this idea particularly if it is on cakes!

But why not mix it up a little and make it a little more personal to your guests!

One idea that I had recently was to personalise your Place Cards with a picture of the guest instead! A little quirky but certainly special and will be very special to your guests too - make sure you ask for a picture of themselves when they RSVP if you do not already have a picture of them, or use Facebook!

You could have a complete picture of them without a name or use normal place cards and insert a picture of them next to their name. If you want to keep it looking simple then put the pictures into Monochrome so that they do not defect from the rest of your table too much.

Information overload…

When planning your Wedding there are hundreds of things to think of and one of those is how on earther your guests will get all the information they need about the day!  One invitation just is not enough!

Two of my friends are getting married this Summer and I received my invite earlier on in the week.  At the bottom of the invite there is a web address to their own personal wedding page which had all the information readily available for guests to browse at their leisure including places to stay, times, information about the bridal party, how the Bride and Groom met and much more. You could even RSVP online!

GettingMarried.co.uk has so much available for the Bride and Groom as well as guests. Why not have a browse now to see if it could help you arrange your big day!

P.S Thank you to the couple who bought this to my attention… :)

Name your place…

Place Cards can be tricky little things and quite expensive if you go for the ones that need holders too.

Place Cards for Glasses seem to be a new trend that looks beautiful on the table especially with the laser cut designs that have very intricate detailing.

Choose a colour/shape to fit with your theme or something that stands out to highlight the cards to your guests.

This particular design shown is from The Last Detail and costs £4.50 for a pack of 10.

Quintessential Vintage…

Vintage is a theme that many desire for their celebrations.  Whether it’s a garden tea party, an a-list awards night or Summer wedding, the vintage theme fits in perfectly.

Vintage crockery hire is a big business in the events and hospitality sector at the moment and makes planning a vintage themed event a little easier!

The crockery above (which I think looks beautiful…) is from My Vintage Party, and they have crockery, cutlery, accessories and glassware available for hire.  Prices vary on items and they will even offer a styling and clearing down service at a cost of £100.

There are many companies across the UK who offer this service and I would advise having a look around for someone who is located close to your venue to help minimise cost.
